Last day in college as a fresher
04.28.04 (8:34 pm) [edit]
Today was the last day in college as a first yearer.. Got my vacation upto the 15th of June.. I hope liltlestar gets the vacation that she yearns for too.. She is upset over something personal to her...
The last year really flew.. It was all a blur, it seemed that I had just joined my college and now a year is over already!! Had a really good time too.. Makes time fly fast... :)
Planning to visit my cousin Rajesh who lives in Bangalore.. I am also planning to complete the Coimbatore website which I started so optimitically - coimbatore.info . I am getting the content ready and hopefully, I'll be able to make headway...
I have seen a lot of people leave tblog lately and most of them were due to personal reasons...
Hope this doesnt happen too often...

What more could I ask for??
04.27.04 (2:33 pm) [edit]
Yesterday, I was blogging around and left my sytem for a while.. I logged in once again and found out that Rocky had made me a Pro-user as I was helping a lot in the Forum.
I was really speechless, the main reason was that I wasnt expecting this to happen...
Today morning, I got a really huge dissapointment...:( I was expecting to be shown in featured blogs.. but it was not to be... I thought that they only took the votes into account, but it was not to be... I think that there is something else that counts to be in featured blogs...
I wont be submitting in the near future though.. Too close for comfort :)

Give ideas for contests on my blog...
04.24.04 (1:44 pm) [edit]
I am planning to conduct a contest with a little 'monetary' help from speshy... Lotsa tbucks to be given away as cash prizes..
But the only trouble is, i dont know on what topic to keep these contests.. Please give some ideas and if your idea is selected.. get tbucks too!!
One idea that I got was, giving prizes to blogs that are designed neat and are easy to read...
The prizes could also include blog stickers proclaiming something like "Winner - *Easy to use* blog awards"... something of that sort..
The panel that decides the winners could come from the tblog community, any volunteers??
What do you think?

My Experiments with truth - Mahatma Gandhi
04.22.04 (6:13 pm) [edit]
For the foundation course exam, we were given a choice of two books, one was [u]"You can win" by Shiv Kera[/u] and the other was [u]"My Experiments with truth" by Mahatma Gandhi[/u] - Our Father of the nation. I chose the latter since we can atleast get to know the life of a great person (Its his Autobiography) instead of winning (selfish eh??) The book was informative on the way he lived.
I liked one of his quotes -
"I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and Non-violence are as old as the hills" - [i]M. K. Gandhi[/i]
Do read the book if you got the time..

A photo album I created using Photoshop.
04.17.04 (7:39 pm) [edit]
I created a lot of albums using Adobe photoshop, But I could only upload one of them.. for the time being.
Click here to view the photos.
Will be uploading more today perhaps...
Fantastico that was installed on my server also helped with content management, Was meddling and one of them was really good, called Mambo Server...
Hope I decide on something that I'll be able to use on my community site. If you know of any content management open source programs (in perl, php), do drop me a comment!! Thanx..
PS:- You wont find me in most of the photographs as I was the one who took most of them..

Photoshop helps me all the time!
04.15.04 (4:39 pm) [edit]
I was rummaging through my data CDs, 90% of which is not labelled when I came across a CD that seemed familiar.. When I put it in my system, I was very pleased to find that it was a collection of photographs from my school, including the last day at my school.
Incidentally, a senior of mine who graduated from my school in 1987, wanted to see some pics of the school, So I decided to put it on the net. But wait a sec.. all these photographs were taken at a high resolution... I needed to sort everything out, resize create thumbnails... Hell lot of work..
But along came Photoshop... Its Web photogallery creator makes it child's play to do a gallery.. though the scripts are restricted.. it is still relatively easy.. just specify the source folder and the destination folder and you get the gallery in HTML, cool huh??
Saved me a lot of work.. :D

My happenings - Last week thru this.
04.14.04 (3:57 pm) [edit]
|
A lot of events took place to me in the last few days. I had my semester lab exam on Monday. We would be given two programs and we were supposed to complete both of them without any choice. I got two, the first, Converting the input mathematical expression from Infix notation to Postfix Notation. The second one was to perform the 'Selection Sort' sorting on the given input elements. The second one was easy.. The first one required a lot of work in our cranium.. The dumb program refused to give the output. For example, if you enter A+B, the result should be AB+, but my program refused to print the operator, it kept printing 'AB' alone.. It was only after the examination that I found out that the culprit was a missing '}'.. the program even compiled successfully, but as you know, no use crying over spilt milk.
Yesterday, we went over to Sathyan's house as he had called all of us over for a mini feast as it was the Tamil New Year. We had a lot of food that was catered to by a small restaurant near our house. Then we watched Tomb Raider on his new DVD. Great sound system.
=http://img19.photobucket.com/... align="left" alt="Enrique Iglesias" width="200" height="200"
I can never imagine that I missed Enrique's Concert in Bangalore on account of my exams and the little time that I had for traveling 350 kms to Bangalore. There was little I could do other than play a few of his CDs in my music System at full blast. I hope that this wouldn't be the case next time around. Waiting for you Enrique.
Met a few of my friends from school.. they vowed that they would join the group and also inform all the others. That's lousy considering the number of times that they have made similar promises.
Today, we had to go to our college during the study hols to gather our Hall Tickets from our college. It was crowded and we had a hell of a time getting the tickets. We had to pay an extra 50 rupees as breakage charges. That is daylight robbery.. Next time, I'll break something before I leave the lab ;)
My semesters (theory) start next week.. got most of my papers including accounts and also a 'foundation course' in which we got to write an exam based on a few books that were specified, one was "You can win" - by Shiv Kera and the other "My Experiments with truth' by Mahatma Gandhi.. I would go for the smaller one ofcourse ;)
Until later.. byes..

News : Awake open heart surgery - Coimbatore
04.12.04 (9:05 pm) [edit]
|
Late news, but interesting news! This happened in my City a few days back. Found it on the net only now.... Hope you find it interesting!
PTI[ THURSDAY, APRIL 08, 2004 12:34:16 PM ]
COIMBATORE: Claimed to be the first of its kind in the country, a city-based hospital has successfully performed an ‘awake open heart surgery’ on a 21-year old woman, who witnessed the entire procedure.
The woman, with congenital heart disease - a hole in the heart - was operated on Wednesday, when she was totally conscious, a release from K G Hospital reads.
She was given an epidural special medical injection near spinal cord, blunting the sensation all over the chest and abdomen, chief cardiac surgeon said.
The patient was completely awake, able to talk fluently, and moved the legs and hands, but without any pain sensation.
The surgeon said that a 10 cm long incision was made on the breast bone, which was cut open with electric saw, to expose the heart and put on heart lung machine.
After stopping the heart, the upper chamber (atrium) was opened and the large hole was identified and closed, he said.
The woman watched her heart beat in the cardiac monitor and observed the total stoppage of her own heart and the completion of the procedure, the surgeon said, adding she also observed restarting of the heart and "enjoyed the whole procedure with a smile and absolutely without any pain."

My new mobile phone.
04.09.04 (10:21 pm) [edit]
|
I changed my mobile phone today after a lot of thought and consideration. I have actually downgraded from a higher config handset to a lesser configured one. I really miss my old one, a Nokia 3530,
My previous handset -A NOKIA 3530:
This was the handset that I was using until now.. At the time of buying, august last, it was the coolest and less expensive handset available then.
The only drawback was that it was a bit huge and difficult to carry.. I mean uncomfortable to have in your jeans pocket. So, I decided that I had to make go with this handset.
Some drawbacks I faced :
Size/ Frequent Hanging of Software.
See the features of this phone Click here.
My present handset - A NOKIA 1100 :
I actually downgraded my handset from a colour display to a black and white. This handset looked sleek and was small! So I decided that this was a good choice. But I really dont know if I made the right decision, The previous handset had GPRS and MMS (Though my service provider is yet to support both). The only special mention about this handset is that it has an awkward looking torchlight at the top.
I can still backtrack and get back my old sweety :')
Some drawbacks I faced after using my 3530:
Phonebook ( a measly 50 entries compared to 500 in my 3530)
No calendar.
No MMS.
No separate buttons for attending and hanging up on a call.
No polyphonic tones.
And a hell lot more...
See the features of this mobile Click here.
I can backtrack even now.. What do you think?

Privacy - Nobody seems to respect it nowadays.
04.05.04 (3:41 pm) [edit]
As the world gets shrunk under the rule of Information Technology, people seem to care less and less about other people's privacy. I get so irritated when I am writing a personal mail and there is this guy peering over my shoulder at the cybercafe. I have never seen this guy before and he seems so interested to see what I am doing.
These annoying people also seem to like your instant messages... they stare like anything when you are busy chatting online with a close friend of yours.. making you feel very uncomfortable. Why are they interested in other people's messages? They got thier own problems to think about...
This is not bound to the computer alone.. When you are on your mobile... these people get into your conversation... they smile when you do when you are actually *smiling* at the person at the other end of the line... and they come close so that they can hear the conversation too :x
Some of my college friends are worser off.. they keep staring at your mobile's screen when you are busy typing a private SMS.. they know that it is private.. but they dont seem to care a damn about it.. and when they want to have a play at our mobile phone's games, and when we receive a message, it is only after THEY read the message that they inform us that we have received a message... this irritates me so much so that I have to verbally give them a go! And they'll smile sheepishly at me... Aarrgghh!! I dont know whether my reflections on this issue are right... But I really hate it when such people do it this way... :x

My school life - Carmel Garden
04.03.04 (9:53 pm) [edit]
Reading thru most of the people's blogs here, who talk about thier cool school life, I get pangs... I miss my school a lot. Its been only a year since I graduated from my school... But it already seems like an eternity.. the reason for that is, all the other fellows have some of thier batch mates in thier respective colleges.. but not me, there ARE two other guys from my class who are in my college.. but they arent that close to me and I rarely meet them as thier dept. is quite far off from mine.
All alone, it is driving me nuts... I thought that I would never forget my pals.. but already i am having troubles remembering many people who were with me after only a year. I still keep contact with most of them over the phone.. but still..
Most of my personal friends from Coimbatore do not know about my blog and incase you are one of them, I want to say this truly, I miss each and everyone of you.. More so during these exam times.. no one to share notes with, no one to give a comforting hand to lean on...
I miss my quizzing partner, Adarsh. Both of us used to go to most of the Quizzes and other extra-curricular activities that were held in Coimbatore and never returned empty-handed on most occasions... He was a good learner and got admitted into Anna University, Madras, far from here... Tried emailing him, But his mailbox is "Not in Use"...
We have our own yahoo group too, but so far only 8 of our guys from our batch of 87 have joined.. There's no sign of an alumni association to be formed in our school even after repeated representations.. But there is good news, one of my friends called me up to tell me that he found his autograph book that had all the phone numbers and addresses of all the fellows who were with us at school, thats good news..
Miss you guys...

A blind man on the way!
04.01.04 (2:54 pm) [edit]
Today I was returning home from College when I had to take some photocopies as it is my french exam tomorrow, I was going towards my friends house when I saw a blind man making his way beside me.. I had something in my mind and was walking watching him... An old lady from the side of the street yelled at me to guide him along the way... I felt stupid coz I hadnt done that on my own..
I asked him to grab my hand and asked him his destination and led him along the way.. I was thinking about how hard life must be for these persons to travel and work.. But you should see the determination with which they do things, that is highly appreciatable.. I know a person who plays the drums even though he is unable to see.. Thats wonderful! God will certainly look after these people...
