Packing my bags...
02.26.04 (10:43 am)   [edit]
I am packing my bags off to bangalore as i am writing this...

Meet you from bangalore...

Hope the weather is good ;) ...

What the???
02.25.04 (8:38 pm)   [edit]
My friends are planning to leave for Bangalore tomorrow with me, the IT capital of India by the Intercity train. The whole trip was planned in less than an hour by the gang and i got to know about it only after they had reserved all the necessary tickets.

I really dont have a clue of bangalore other than that it is modern, been there twice but not long enough for the culture to 'sink in' :? We are planning to stay there for three days... dont know where we are gonna spend THREE WHOLE DAYS in a place like that...

Heard from a friend that there is a lake [i]in the middle of the city[/i] surrounded by high rise buildings and you are allowed boating in this lake... it sounds wierd to me coz the only place where i have seen lakes in India is near the suburbs or is surrounded by trees and swamps or near the coast where people prefer to call them inlets...

Got to pack my bags now... more details to follow...

Fever blogged me down!
02.24.04 (8:13 pm)   [edit]
Couldnt make it to college today... my fever reached a deafening crescendo... Woke up at 12 PM, Now i am a lot better. My MMS is working a lot better now... Had idlis for lunch... Was bored enough... Watched the planet's funniest animals in the evening...

I am feeling a lot better now... just hope that i am fit enough to make it to college tomorrow... Saravanan called me up to tell me that we are having a test tomorrow on CSA (Computer System Architecture). Thats the worst news that i have heard since morning...

I have seen better days....

I am flying without wings!
02.23.04 (9:18 pm)   [edit]
Here is a pic i took using my friends mobile during my trip to the nilgiris, I am standing in a ledge with a drop of around a 100 feet just behind me... It was fun though..

This location is some 5 miles from kothagiri.

The yellow shirt guy is raghavendra who was not captured, the pic was taken by anvar.

Catch you later

Down with a cold - the sequel
02.23.04 (9:02 pm)   [edit]
The misery continued today too as i was unable to sit in my classes. Had 'C' lab all afternoon and i was sleeping with my eyes open..

The moment i reached home, i slept all evening and woke up just now... thought that i had the energy to write down a blog today... and here i am...

Also played with the silly MMS network here and i actually downloaded a few wallpapers to my mobile! Thats surprising seeing the state of the networks here!

The college poster for Euphoria has been released and i feel that it looks a lot stupid than what i did. It is simple and neat, but those guys asked me not to make it simple... Anyway, there is also a talk about starting our department function - organised by the students of the Computer Science Department. More details are withheld for the time being...

Got to go... my nose just ran away!
Until my next blog ....

Down with a cold...
02.22.04 (8:05 pm)   [edit]
Had a very bad cold along with a sore throat today... My voice was hoarse like a horse. Lost my appetite.... All food tasted bad...
But had the time and energy to post two blogs...

The common cold is one of the most irritating of all symtoms... the nose hurts, the throat hurts... the head hurts... the whole damn body hurts...

hope i'll get well tomorrow...

Bye...

Humour - The C Monkey!
02.22.04 (3:32 pm)   [edit]
A tourist walked into a pet shop and was looking at the animals on display. While he was there, another customer walked in and said to the shopkeeper,

"I'll have a C monkey please." The shopkeeper nodded, went over to a cage at the side of the shop and took out a monkey. He fit a collar and leash, handed it to the customer, saying, "That'll be $5000."

The customer paid and walked out with his monkey. Startled, the tourist went over to the shopkeeper and said, "That was a very expensive monkey. Why did it cost so much?" The shopkeeper answered, "Ah, that monkey can program in C - very fast, tight code, no bugs, well worth the money."

The tourist looked at the monkey in another cage. "That one's even more expensive! $10,000! What does it do?" "Oh, that one's a C++ monkey; it can manage object-oriented programming, Visual C++, even some Java. All the really useful stuff," said the shopkeeper.

The tourist looked around for a little longer and saw a third monkey in a cage of its own. The price tag around its neck read $50,000. He gasped to the shopkeeper, "That one costs more than all the other put together! What on earth does it do?"

The shopkeeper replied, "Well, I haven't actually seen it do anything, but the other monkeys call him the project manager."

College poster called off
02.21.04 (10:05 pm)   [edit]
The Euphoria '04 guys cancelled the idea of me designing thier college poster as they were in a bit of a hurry and decided that a design that they had completed earlier would suffice. It was a mixed feeling for me... Sad, coz i wont be able to showcase my talent this way and happy coz it was already taking a toll - both on my time and my system's resources.

Well, got to wait one more year when more like-minded people take control of the festival. Cascall's coming up on the 28th and 29th of this month. By the way, Cascall is an aided* section festival, i.e., these courses get government aid in functioning and it is organised by these students.

Euphoria on the other hand is an unaided festival and is fully organised by the unaided* section students.
Euphoria '04 is on March 6th.

* My college is divided into two sections : aided - the programs that get government aid, and unaided- self financed programs

Today, a domain that i had been trying to book all along, chandini.biz has been finally registered. There was a problem with registering domains with the .biz extension at my registrar and it was finally through today! Its for a printing press and they asked me to do something about thier new website...

Got to go... time for a quick 40 winks..

Zzzzzzzz....

Trip to the Nilgiris
02.20.04 (8:45 pm)   [edit]
Today, our gang of six, me, anvar, ashakir, nishyanth, raghavendra and prasad bunked our classes and went to the nilgiris,a hill resort some 70 miles from our city - Coimbatore by means of a car. We had a jolly good time, all we did was go there, reach the queen of hills, ooty... have lunch and we were on our way back via a place called kothagiri where there was not much traffic.

We missed near fatality when we were forced of a road by an oncoming truck in the ghat road... but thanx to the skillful driving of ashakir... we made it out in a single piece :)

The route from kothagiri to the foothills is a smooth gradient and we touched upto 70kmph without starting the car! 8) on neutral gear!! We saved a lot of fuel...

We had a good time... took a lot of pics... will be uploading them for all to see a little while later...

Bye for now...

My friend's sad love story...
02.18.04 (7:14 pm)   [edit]
This is a very sad and true story that occured to my friend. I knew him for over a year and i did not have a clue that he was engaged to a girl right since from high school. I am not using names for privacy...

He knew her for over a year and all was going fine when to the shock of his life, the girl, who is only 18, called him up and told him that her parents had fixed a marriage for her with a 33 year old guy. Maybe it was done for the dowry... i contemplate...

He tried his best to go to her hometown and persuade her... but she told him that she was scared to go against her parents' wishes!!

He made one last trip two days before the wedding day, when the girl's mother pleaded with him to try not to stop the wedding as the whole prestige of thier family would come into question...

Today was the wedding day... and probably today morning she was packed off... my friend was on the verge of tears.. he kept mumbling that he was only a little guy and why should god do this to him... he also said that he himself felt so sad, then imagine the stuff that the gal is going thru with a guy whom she doesnt wanna live with...

Even i was moved.... but there was nothing that i could do except console him.... :(

Relive those memories
02.17.04 (6:53 pm)   [edit]
Today, I was walking near my house when i spotted little boys playing cricket in the street where i live. It brought back those memories when i was a little kid and there used to be a gang of us, who used to play there....

We used to have a smashing time and time used to fly like a jet plane... Then the movement started... one by one, all of them left... two to the gulf... some more the same city some miles further... some some other college - some other state...

Now i am all alone without anybody to keep company with... but it was really a pleasant feeling to see those kids play... all of them were 5-7 yrs old... the legacy continues :')

The college poster i designed...
02.15.04 (8:26 pm)   [edit]
Thiyagaraj K.I spent the whole day working on the poster that i was talking about earlier, for my college festival - Euphoria '04. I designed an awkward looking poster that the guys who were responsible for choosing the poster said that it was too rebellistic to be accepted.... they asked me to change the lady image that i had put as the background...

Here's the image:

Euphoria '04 PSGCAS, Prepare to get iced!!

Now i have to rework on the whole image and make it a bit more colourful

Got to rework now..... bye...

Murphy's Laws of work
02.13.04 (9:42 pm)   [edit]
It came in my email and makes a good email forward...

Murphy's Laws of Work
- A pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the pants.
- Don't be irreplaceable, if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.
- The more crap you put up with, the more crap you are going to get.
- You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.
- Eat one live toad the first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.
- Never ask two questions in a business letter. The reply will discuss the one you are least interested in, and say nothing about the other.
- When the bosses talk about improving productivity, they are never talking about themselves.
- If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.
- There will always be beer cans rolling on the floor of your car when the boss asks for a ride home from the office.
- Mother said there would be days like this, but she never said there would be so many.
- Keep your boss's boss off your boss's back. This is what I'm doing wrong.
- Everything can be filed under "miscellaneous."
- Never delay the ending of a meeting or the beginning of a cocktail hour.
- To err is human, to forgive is not company policy.
- Anyone can do any amount of work provided it isn't the work he is supposed to be doing.
- Important letters that contain no errors will develop errors in the mail.
- The last person that quit or was fired will be the one held responsible for everything that goes wrong- until the next person quits or is fired.
- There is never enough time to do it right the first time, but there is always enough time to do it over.
- The more pretentious a corporate name, the smaller the organization.(For instance, The Murphy Center for Codification of Human and Organizational Law, contrasted to IBM, GM, AT&T...).
- If you are good, you will be assigned all the work. If you are really good, you will get out of it.
- You are always doing something marginal when the boss drops by your desk.
- People are always available for work in the past tense. - If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done.
- At work, the authority of a person is inversely proportional to the number of pens that person is carrying.
- When you don't know what to do, walk fast and look worried.
- You will always get the greatest recognition for the job you least like.
- No one gets sick on Wednesdays.
- When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question, "How would the Lone Ranger handle this?"
- The longer the title, the less important the job.
- Machines that have broken down will work perfectly when the repairman arrives.
- An "acceptable" level of employment means that the government economist to whom it is acceptable still has a job.
- Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse.
- All vacations and holidays create problems, except for one's own.
- Success is just a matter of luck, just ask any failure

until later ....

Accounts (subject) isnt as tough...
02.11.04 (9:04 pm)   [edit]
Today, My friend Saravanan told me that he would teach a thing or two about accounts as he had accounts as the major subject in his higher secondary.

It took me only half an hour to figure out most of the basics and only one and a half hours in total to learn 80% of my prescribed syllabus  But the going may get tough in future as there are a lot of complicated accounting at the end of the driveway... my thanx to sarav for helping me out on this one...

Data Structures the day after tomorrow...
Me and my friends had a great time at a local hangout...
our college bus met with an accident at the entrance to our college when it was coming back to take us back home... luckily no one was injured except the bus :( which had a huge gash and the autorickshaw; which was total... the students had to go home in the government buses... it caused a lot of hardship...

got to go now... gotta revise accounts...
Ciao...

The not-so-popular educational system...
02.10.04 (10:25 pm)   [edit]
Today... attended my french exam and wrote a lot of crap... :? the professor would get mad for sure by reading my "Frenglish" but am i to blame??? i dont think that i'll be moving to france or would be speaking to any french person in the near future... even if i did, the grammar that is taught here is rather insufficient to make us fully fit to launch into a french conversation with gusto... Anyways.. think that i'll make it past...

Tomorrow is not going to be a rendezvous with "business accounts" as i thought of earlier  ... luckily a friend caught me just as i was leaving college and during the course of our chat.. i came to know that tomorrow was CSA (Computer Systems Architecture) and thats an equally boring subject dealing with processors and stuff like that...

The whole educational system can be a lot more different... All the examinations that take place in our state, tamilnadu, is a lot dull nevertheless captivating... I know of nerds in my class who would be the toppers in all fields, but come to common sense and they go down real hard... The subjects can be more down to earth and easier to understand with more understandable concepts...

The current mode of studying here is "Mug-mug-mug" "jot-jot-jot" and in the end they become nerve-wracking psycho-paths...

Well, guess i dont have time for contemplating over something that is not under our control ...

I'll rather look ahead into the future...

HEY!! i can see light at the end of the tunnel!!

**Wham!!! Thiyagaraj gets run over by a train **

A very long day...
02.09.04 (9:33 pm)   [edit]
Today...
I woke up late in the morning and missed my college bus... had to call up my friend and ask him to drop me... Then i had the first of my internal exams... Today was English and it wasnt so tough and i could easily finish the paper... Tommorow is french and accounts (aaarrggghhh!!!) the day after.

Since I am quite bad in the french language, me and my friends, anvar, ashakir and nishyanth planned to study together in nishyanth's house for around two hours... We reached his place at 6pm and it was only at 7.30pm that anvar could make it....

After that we chatted the rest of the time until 10.00pm without learning a syllable hoping to cram something tomorrow morning... hope the staff is lenient in his correction...

Now i am here, typing in this log... after a heavy dinner that makes me wanna just go to sleep... Hope i am awake all through the exam tomorrow...

have to push off now..... Zzzzzzz

New Feel to my blog
02.08.04 (8:26 pm)   [edit]
Just finished customizing my blog to make it more like the way that I wanted it... My friend wanted me to add more colour to the pages and hence i tried adding some splash and i think that it has come out well too.... Must get the opinion from him tomorrow...

My exams start tomorrow... think that i'll scrape through them.. but the result only time and my interest to study will tell...

Will continue posting....
Adios...

A Happy Reunion
02.08.04 (7:12 pm)   [edit]
Today, I got to meet an uncle and aunty of mine whom we lost touch with in 1991. The last time I remember seeing them when I was a little kid about 6 years old in 1991 during another uncle's funeral....

After that my family gradually lost contact with them and even though they were only about 50 kilometres away from our place, we lost track of phone numbers and thier addresses....

Last week, a friend of my Dad told him that he knew where they were living and also provided him with a solid address. My family went there to meet them minus me as I had some exam on that today... Today we got a pleasant surprise when they stopped by at my place... And though i forgot how the uncle looked like... I could remember the aunty... she too was surprised as i was only about 6 years old at that time....

They also revealed that thier son had been living in an apartment just a few minutes walk from ours without knowing it. He was there for 4 years for completing his college degree... He left for home last year after sucessfully completing his degree....

Strange are the ways of life...

Night All....

Exam Blues
02.07.04 (6:24 pm)   [edit]
Boy... My internals starts day after tomorrow... I am suposed to be learning something now... but i dont seem to care a damn until the last moment....

its not what i have become after coming into college ... but rather, what i have always been.

Last minute blues used to work when i was a kid and the syllabus was tiny and easy... just a peep before the D-day and I could write the whole exam without a tear...

But as i grew older... and the portions grew too... i found it difficult to cope up at the last moment, a pillow-sized book at 3.00 AM on the exam-day was comfortable enough for me to sleep thru the time... and my first arrears started showing up... but now, in college, it is a lot easier as the syllabi has something to do with our day to day life making it easly understandable works :? ...

Here i am pondering over the past without time to spare... and my exams  are peering thru the covers as i am typing this...

Hope i get along with this....

Boy... A Lot frustrated....
02.07.04 (2:27 pm)   [edit]
Was i really frustrated... tblog kept telling me that my password was wrong.... even after changing it a hell lot of times... i was unable to login... finally I was able to login and post this message... Missed it a lot during the time :(

Accounts.... aaaawwww!!!
02.02.04 (4:17 pm)   [edit]
Accounts sucks really.... atleast until i learn it.... They say "Debit", "Credit", "Income", "Expense", "Profit", "Loss".... and i dont find a head or tail from it... i used to while around my time in class, just scribbling something on a piece of paper just to play along... upto the day i got caught without anything in my notebook...

Now i got to copy half a book, all at the same time... aaaarrrrggghhhhh!!! That really sux.... :x

But i got to do something if i want to score in my exams... :(

I just gotta find some place on the net which offers tutorials on "Accounts"....

Still Searching...

Kalpana Chawla - A tribute to the person she was...
02.02.04 (2:56 pm)   [edit]
[b]From Rediff.com[/b]

------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------
After national prayers for the Columbia crew last February in the United States, a college student from Hawaii approached Kalpana Chawla's family.

She came because a chance meeting with Kalpana during her school days had changed her life.

"I had come on a trip to NASA having made up my mind to give up science in higher studies," she told the family. "During a meeting I happened to sit next to Kalpana. The conversation we had for half an hour changed my life forever and I decided to continue to study science," she added.

Such stories are routine now. Men, women, and children from all over the world often write such words to the family, says Kalpana's elder sister, Sunita Chaudhry.

"Kalpana was very unique," she says. "Now, when we look back we realise that from childhood she was really special. Do you know how different she was from other girls?"

Kalpana would "rebel under your nose without you ever realising it", she recalls, slightly lifting the veil from their lives. "She would get her way without hurting you. You would hardly ever see her angry."

She once scribbled on a poster showing two faces of the moon and asked Sunita: "Why don't you visit? It is just next door."

Sunita says she "recently discovered a card with a rocket drawn by her [Kalpana] as a child, inspiring her friend to go to space".

Another card, sent from the US some two decades ago when she was a student there, says, 'I keep telling JP [her husband J P Harrison] that one day a spaceship is going to kidnap me.'

That was Kalpana.

She almost equally divided her life between India and the US; The astronaut lived in the two countries for 20 years, five months and a few days each.

But she would never say she belonged to one country.

In 1997 she refused to travel with secretary of state Madeline Albright to India because she wanted nothing to do with politics.

For Kalpana, who loved to wander for hours in the wilderness, it was clear that she belonged to the universe, and she finally settled down among the stars.

Columbia was just "made for her", according to Sunita. The shuttle flew its first mission the year Kalpana went to the US; the shuttle project, after the Apollo mission and moon landing, took off the year Kalpana was born.

Unlike other girls Kalpana never pierced her ears and never wore jewellery. "I once took a gift for her in 1997 -- a very thin gold bangle -- thinking that perhaps she would wear it. When I gave it to her she made these big eyes and asked, 'Oh, you actually thought I would wear it?'"

In fact, the woman who would one day capture the imagination of the whole world did not have enough money to go to a parlour even six years after coming to the US. "She kept cutting her own hair till she got her first job... She said she didn't have $20 to pay," Sunita reminisces.

She was also not very bothered about her clothes. Sunita says when the family met Kalpana two days before her second visit to space, she was wearing a jacket from her Chandigarh days, "more than 20 years old". "If you see all the photographs, you will notice a particular sweater that she had been wearing for 12 years. But she still looked so gorgeous."

During the same meeting, says Sunita, "she told me she had left some books for me to read... she had left instructions about birding spots in Houston, etc for the 15-16 days she would be away."

The family spoke to her twice while she was in space. "We were fooling around for the first few seconds. Then she suddenly became very serious and addressed our mom in Punjabi, and turned to JP and told him that she was going to talk to mom in Punjabi and then would translate it for him.

"Kalpana told our mom that the other day, when the sun was setting, she was looking out of the window. She said, 'I saw my reflection in the window and I could see my eyes and the retinas of my eyes... I could see the whole earth in the retinas.'

"In the second hook-up, after saying hello when she came online she really looked gorgeous in a T-shirt. Looking bright, she did a few summersaults to show us zero gravity. Then she asked mom, 'Mamu, shall I show you something?' We could just see her doing something, but for a few seconds we didn't know what she was actually doing. Then out came a picture of mom and dad from 35 years ago, when she was a kid. She is sitting in their lap. She had taken that picture with her. Then she took out a picture of her and JP and showed it to him. Then she took out a picture of us three sisters, and she said, 'You are all with me.'"

I would like to thank all of you who accepted me as a friend... :)

i wasnt referring to mixedmuse when i said that a person snubbed me when i wanted to be his/her friend... and i dont think that it would be appropriate for me to tell who it was... anyways...

To tell more about myself, I am almost 18, (come march 2nd) from Coimbatore, India... I have just entered my college life... been six months and enjoying it outright... it was my friend srihari yamanoor (Srihari's Blog) who referred me to this great blog... And i like the response that i am getting from the members too...

Can anyone tell me where can i find out about *NEW* members and recent posts... like how you found me :?:

Thanx a lot,
Thiyaga

The lyrics of the song goes like this...

------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And nurse me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming in tales
Heads are a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh take me back to the start

I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start

Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start
------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------

Makes me think twice...

Regards,
Thiyaga

Whew, Today I woke up at 11:00 AM and had my breakfast at 2:00 PM!!

Then i started desiging an invitation for my college's annual cultural festival "Euphoria"...

Its been only six months since i have been in this college, PSGCAS, but the chairman got to know that i am into designing and asked me to design a good looking invitation since all the other guys screwed it all up...

I tried my hand... came out junxed up, but was better than most of the others... still got some finishing touches...

Will add it online once it is finished..

Got to go, still got work left :( ,

TTFN,
Thiyaga.
